Which Scandal Are We On Today? FAST AND FURIOUS Gun-Running By Dept. of Justice
October 4, 2011

This is a must read and The Weekly Standard has the full story.  CBS News Correspondent Sharyl Atkisson revealed in a radio interview with Laura Ingrahm that she has been yelled and screamed at by Department of Justice aides and White House aides over her reporting of the gun-running scandal that started out as a sting operation approved by the Department of Justice.  The “Fast and Furious” operation failed and actually delivered thousands of heavy arms into the hands of Mexican drug runners and gangs.

Attorney General Eric Holder is now being side-stepped in favor of a special investigation of the Justice Department after Holder testified before Congress stating that he knew almost nothing about the operation.  Few believe this.  Here’s Atkisson sharing with Laura Ingrahm how this third scandal to rock The White House is being received by insiders there and at the DOJ:

Atkisson:

CBS Sharyl Atkisson

“In between the yelling that I received from Justice Department yesterday, the spokeswoman–who would not put anything in writing, I was asking for her explanation so there would be clarity and no confusion later over what had been said, she wouldn’t put anything in writing–so we talked on the phone and she said things such as the question Holder answered was different than the one he asked. But he phrased it, he said very explicitly, ‘I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.’

Ingraham: So they were literally screaming at you?
Attkisson: Yes. Well the DOJ woman was just yelling at me. The guy from the White House on Friday night literally screamed at me and cussed at me. [Laura: Who was the person? Who was the person at Justice screaming?] Eric Schultz. Oh, the person screaming was [DOJ spokeswoman] Tracy Schmaler, she was yelling not screaming. And the person who screamed at me was Eric Schultz at the White House.”

Finally, Attkisson notes that the White House is claiming that a thorough investigation of the scandal is unwarranted:

Attorney General Eric Holder Denies Any Knowledge of "Fast and Furious"

[The White House and Justice Department] will tell you that I’m the only reporter–as they told me–that is not reasonable. They say the Washington Post is reasonable, the LA Times is reasonable, the New York Times is reasonable, I’m the only one who thinks this is a story, and they think I’m unfair and biased by pursuing it.”

Attorney General Eric Holder is in a tough jam.  Either he falls on the sword for NOT knowing about a major operation supervised by his department, or he falls on the sword because he DID know…and the operation was a dramatic disaster.   The cost of “Fast and Furious?”

The lives of American law enforcement and border enforcement officers who are facing the lost guns now in the hands of criminal gangs mostly from Mexico.
