Obama’s Numbers High In One State: The Republic of CALIFORNIA
September 5, 2011
Voters in the struggling state of California, which (heaven knows) votes predominantly Democrat, say they still favor Barack Obama for President over Mitt Romney, Rick Perry or Michele Bachmann. The poll conducted by the University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and released this weekend suggests that 50% to 43% of California voters feel President Obama is still doing a good job in the White House.
USC polls have not always been highly-regarded in California political campaigns and often have unusual parameters. The methodology of the USC survey was also not revealed in the Los Angeles Times exclusive:
Follow @TKC_US“By 50% to 43%, voters approved of Obama’s handling of the presidency,
down from a high of 60% a year after his election. But the state’s three most potent voter groups — women, nonpartisan voters and Latinos — remained firmly in his corner. Fifty-five percent of women and nonpartisan voters were satisfied with the job the president is doing, a judgment shared by 59% of Latinos.”
While Obama is holding strong in California, a must-win for his re-election in 2012, his numbers have dropped significantly among voters there, at least by ten percent.
GOP numbers in the USC survey show that Rick Perry is enjoying a bit of a honeymoon with voters. Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum all seem to be paying the price in the polls for Perry’s immediate popularity. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney continues to hold steady, either just ahead or just behind Perry in this week’s polls. The upcoming Republican Presidential Debate in California will be a good “proving ground” for Perry who will take the national stage for the first time.
