How DOES the former Senator from Pennsylvania, who started with nothing more than a pick-up truck, keep biting at Mitt Romney’s heels?   Rick Santorum isn’t actually gaining any GROUND from Romney.  Governor Romney is way ahead in delegates, and every time Rick wins a dozen, MITT wins a dozen!  But it’s the MORAL VICTORIES that hurt.  Winning Caucus states like Kansas, Colorado, Minnesota.   It’s taking Alabama hands down, and sneaking up and taking Mississippi when Romney had been polling ahead by 8 points, that hurts the Governor. When you’re spending millions of dollars in each state to LOOK like the frontrunner, it’s very frustrating to have Rick Santorum continuing to  steal your thunder! Newt Gingrich is still hoping to get BACK his thunder.   The chances of that happening are not great.

But it seems that as long as the TV lights keep flipping on for Newt, he’ll keep his place in the race.  His presence is breaking Santorum’s back, but THAT’s politics. The stealth, calculated backroom of the Romney Presidential Campaign is still in control.  As Romney heads into the important Illinois Primary next week the delegate totals look like this:  Romney with 495 of the 1,144 needed for the nomination. Santorum at 252, Gingrich 131, and Ron Paul 46.
