No Love Lost Between Rick Perry and Mitt Romney
October 18, 2011

Becoming Less Friendly

Governor Perry and former Governor Mitt Romney butted heads in the CNN Western GOP Presidential Debate, and while it was based on policy differences, it felt personal.  Rick Perry has struggled to gain credibility in each and every debate.  In Nevada, he came ready to unload another weak, unsupported grenade at the feet of Mitt Romney.  Why not bring a solid agenda instead?  His challenge of Romney on immigration, and resurrecting the claim that he had personally hired an illegal to work on his Massachusetts property, fell like a thud.

Governor Perry also wanted to look tough on immigration, but during the debate Romney held Perry’s feet to the fire for approving tuition breaks for children of illegal immigrants.  According to Romney’s research Texas illegal immigration has grown by 60 percent while California and Florida have remained even.   Making these strong claims didn’t bring the two candidates closer together!  Perry made a weak attempt to pin Mitt Romney with a teaspoon of old news, and Mitt Romney managed to make Rick Perry look once again, unprepared.

Are we through talking about Jeffers?

But the underlying tension between the two?  Romney and virtually every other candidate and political observer in the country have called out Rick Perry for endorsing the divisive comments of Pastor Jeffers, who has attacked Romney for not being a “Christian.”   Perry stepped up to the plate and admitted he did not agree with Pastor Jeffers’ bigoted comment, as did every other candidate questioned about the issue of faith.  Finally put to bed we hope?

More importantly, Rick Perry continues to attend debates PROMISING to have a plan on jobs or taxes “in a couple of days”  rather than coming prepared.  Why bother if you’re not ready when the nation is listening?

Rick Perry has fallen 30% in the polls…..for some crystal clear reasons.
