Do You Smoke? At Wal-Mart Health Insurance Will Go Up
October 21, 2011
This is the future: Wal-Mart announces plans to reform it’s health care plans. The most fascinating change is that Wal-Mart employees who smoke will be asked to PAY MORE OF THEIR HEALTH CARE PREMIUMS. Part-time workers putting in less than 24 hours a week will no longer be entitled to health care benefits. (That is anyone hired on after today….) Full-time employees will also have to start pitching in to pay more of their premiums. Why? Because rates are going through the roof, and Obamacare is beginning to kick in.
Only unions are still living in a fantasyland where workers are “entitled” to lifetime health benefits or where health benefits are guaranteed. Private industries simply can’t support the skyrocketing costs of health care insurance, and with Obamacare on the horizon, more and more companies will be trimming up what they offer employees. Wal-Mart says spouses of newly-hired part time employees will
also now be excluded from receiving insurance, but children WILL qualify.
Wal-Mart Stores is the nation’s largest private employer, and beginning immediately anyone taking a part-time job with the big retailer will have to find health coverage elsewhere. Full-time workers will have to start pitching in to pay part of their premiums as well.
New part-time employees who average 24 hours to 33 hours a week will not be able to include a spouse as part of their health care coverage. However, their children will qualify under their plan.
Wal-Mart employs 1.4 million people.
