Santorum Campaign Looking For New Tactics

Could it work?  Santorum staffers think they can STEAL the delegates necessary to stop Mitt Romney from becoming the GOP presidential nominee.

Mitt Romney has garnered more money and more endorsements across the country…and of course double the delegates of all the other contenders put together.  But the Santorum camp believes they can start to PERSUADE delegates to move over to his side, in favor of stronger Conservatism.  Here’s what they’re thinking:

Can Santorum TALK Delegates Into Voting For Him?

“Santorum’s unorthodox strategy centers on states where delegates are selected at local party conventions, after the popular vote has been held.

In those states, such as Washington, where Romney won the popular vote at the caucus, Santorum could still lure delegates to his side, because at these local conventions delegates do not have to follow the results of the popular vote.

The strategy hinges on the idea that picking up even some of these delegates could keep Romney from reaching the threshold. Santorum would then hope to wrest the nomination from Romney in a floor fight at the Republican National Convention in August.

“The people that show up at these conventions are a heck of a lot more conservative than your average voter,’’ said John P. Yob, Santorum’s delegate specialist, who argued that the delegates are not likely to support “a moderate, establishment-backed candidate’’ like Romney.

Romney’s aides said such a strategy, which depends on the ability to organize activists at conventions in far-flung states, is beyond the capabilities of the Santorum campaign, which has struggled even at the more basic task of getting its candidate on the ballot in several states.”

Dead Set On STAYING IN The Race

Hmmm…why not just unite the Party, support the frontrunner now, and take a shot at the Vice-Presidency?????  Seems like a destructive strategy for the Party.  A convention fight on Labor Day would only thrill…the Democrats.

  1. Are these sore-loser tactics an indication of how Santorum would act AFTER he was elected?  I’m tired of him accusing Romney of not being a conservative.  Rather, I believe he is self-righteous in his views.

  2. I’m STILL sticking with Newt. I believe he is the only conservative running and he is keeping the debate on the 2 major issues. ENERGY and Obamacare. Romney DOESN’T know where he stands one minute to the next. Santorum will get eaten alive by the democrat/Marxists in the general.

  3. Santorum’s is a legitimate strategy, especially if voters want to change their minds after hearing Mitt’s aid define him as an “etch-a-sketch” candidate, who will redraw himself after winning the nomination.

Before you rag on Santorum, recall that he won more states than Mitt and Newt combined.

  4. To win the Rep. nomination this way seems underhanded and I think it would almost assure an Obama victory.  He would win the battle but lose the war.  We want to win the war!  He’d be better off stepping down with integrity for the sake of the Republican party than attempting to win in what would be a very divisive way.  I’m looking for someone who can rise above the fray, be a person of integrity and unite America.  This person does not have to be president to do this.  If Santorum stepped down he could do something more important than be president he could be the one to unite America.
