Leather and Hardwood Floors In The ObamaBus

The timing just seems bad.  The Federal Reserve is promising to hold down interest rates for 2 years because the U.S. economy is in deep trouble.  Our AAA bond rating has been downgraded to AA, and not since World War II.  Ten Percent of the country is out of work.  Ten million single mothers are sweating to keep food on the table for their children.  Forty-six million Americans, or more, have no health coverage.

And President Obama is campaigning for re-election throughout the country this week in a brand new jet-black luxury tour bus ordered by the Secret Service.   Price Tag?  1.1 million dollars.   Notice that the vehicle doesn’t have the economy package interior like you might purchase to keep costs down.  No cheap cloth seats for the President.

Leather and hardwood floors?  And of course, not just one had to be purchased, but TWO.

Just seems…..oddly-timed.  Wouldn’t it make more sense if the Obama 2012 Campaign picked up the tab?  THAT’s what

Cheaper Than Southwest Airlines?

he’s using it for:  his re-election.

Secret Service spokesperson Ed Donovan tries to explain:

“Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan emphasized that the bus wasn’t purchased solely for the president and would be used for other dignitaries in the future.

He said the agency has not previously had buses in its fleet and was overdue to get some since it’s had to protect politicians traveling by bus for decades.

In the past, the service has had to lease buses and retrofit them for that purpose.

Donovan said two buses were purchased and one is being used by Obama as he travels through Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. Both will be used by other officeholders and candidates.”

REALLY?  Since when do other “candidates” get to use custom presidential limousines and vehicles?

The White House claims to feel the economic pains of the country, but isn’t living like it.

  1. How many American workers built these? None? I heard they were made in Canada…

  2. Penny:  You are absolutely right.  The buses were constructed in Canada!

  3. The excuse given was that there were no U.S. manufacturers of this type of bus that could build one with enough weight capacity to hold all the security elements required by the Secret Service, but the Canadian builder could.

That’s an even sadder comment upon our decreasing manufacturing capabilities than a simple decision to buy out of country. Not good!!!
