Trying To Halt The Innuendo

Through interviews and appearances with conservative media today, GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain has made it clear that he feels like a “witch hunt” is underway.  Here are the latest details Cain offers to the harassment allegations culled from FOX and the Washington Examiner:

GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain repeated that he has “never sexually harassed anyone,” adding that he believes he is the victim of a “witch hunt.”

Cain addressed questions about a Politico report that said he was twice accused of “sexually suggestive behavior” while leading the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

It was the second time today that the businessman, who is leading national polls on the GOP nomination, has addressed the news story posted online Sunday night.

Amid intense scrutiny, Cain has kept his public schedule and largely echoed what he told Fox News in an interview mid-morning.

The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO repeated that he knew nothing about a financial settlement with his accusers, saying he recused himself from the investigation and let others at the restaurant trade group review the allegations.

National Press Club. “No. 2, while at the restaurant association, I was accused of sexual harassment. Falsely accused, I might add.”

Asked whether he knew if his GOP rivals were behind the Politico report, Cain said: “I have no idea. We have no idea the source of this witch hunt, which is really what it is.”

A statement on Cain’s campaign website says “inside-the-Beltway media” and “political trade press” are “casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up as facts.”

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter likened the allegations against Cain to those faced by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings. Coulter called it “another high-tech lynching.”

Cain on Monday said he will not provide any more details or ask the National Restaurant Association to give out information that could help shed light on what happened because “there’s nothing to shoot down.”
