White House “Hostile Environment For Women?”
September 21, 2011
Perhaps when Lyndon Johnson was president. Perhaps in the Kennedy administration? But could this be true in 2011, when President Obama’s closest adviser is longtime friend Valerie Jarrett? She’s the one who is commenting!
Pulitzer Prize winning author Ron Suskind’s new book, Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington and the Education of a President,” which we mentioned earlier this week in “The Morning Mix”, is lighting fires on Pennsylvania Avenue. Among other not-so-pretty inside stories, he reveals interviews with the Director of Communications, Anita Dunn, and conversation with Valerie Jarrett and OTHERS, all saying that the White House in the past two years has “frozen out” women
advisers.
NO WONDER WE’RE IN SUCH A MESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course on the parade of talk on NBC “TODAY” and Good Morning America and CBS This Morning, White House apologists claim that Ron Suskind has it wrong. Suskind, meanwhile, describes his book as “brick solid” and even shared some of his more profound taped interviews of senior official, Anita Dunn, White House Communications Director, with The Washington Post.
Follow @TKC_US“One of the most striking quotes in the book came from former White House communications director Anita Dunn , who was quoted as saying that, “this place would be in court for a hostile workplace. . . . Because it actually fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.”
Dunn says she was quoted out of context and told The Post on Friday that she told Suskind “point blank” that the White House was not a hostile work environment.
On Monday, Suskind allowed a Post reporter to review a recorded excerpt of the original interview, which took place over the telephone in April. In that conversation, Dunn is heard telling Suskind about a conversation she had with Jarrett.
“I remember once I told Valerie that, I said if it weren’t for the president, this place would be in court for a hostile workplace,” Dunn is heard telling Suskind. “Because it actually fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.”
Pretending to be the young, hip, vibrant, hope and change White House, these revelation would be almost funny….if the state of White House operations weren’t such an incompetent mess. More evidence from the inside of what Americans suspect on the OUTside. President Obama isn’t particularly skilled in leading, organizing, or controlling his staff.
