California...Not So fun Any More

Mitt Romney’s new punch line is, “Re-elect Obama and the whole country will be in trouble just like California.  There are only two ways to go: Like America in the past,” Romney said. “Or like California, where they raise taxes higher and higher and higher. They scare away employers … and they have huge deficits.”

How bad is it?

Visiting tourists only experience California’s suffocating state sales tax….10% and climbing.  Residents are constantly torn between the state’s beautiful weather and terrain and California’s stiff income taxes, property taxes, business taxes, telecommunications taxes, utility subsidies for the poor, and annual bond issues of BILLIONS, not MILLIONS.

Today 2% of Californians pay 50% of the taxes.  Illegal immigration is up to 100,000 per month, public schools are cutting back school days, school nurses, college counselors, and even spelling books, because retirements and health benefits for the state’s unionized teachers are stealing hundreds of millions of tax dollars every year.  California is a mess, but it’s $16 billion dollar deficit is only a sliver compared to the giant federal deficit.

So when Mitt Romney urges all Americans to ponder California’s “democrat-driven” economy with companies and jobs fleeing the state and entitlements RULING the state, he is right on target.  California IS what Wisconsin and other U.S. states will become in ten years if government spending isn’t quashed.

Your Dollars....Flying Out The Window

Mitt Romney has his pick of federal failures to fuel his campaign.  This week Obama’s Stimulus Package is the main course.  From Reuters:

“He used the backdrop of a 1860s-era bridge in New Hampshire to illustrate what he called the wasteful government spending of President Barack Obama’s $787 billion stimulus plan passed in 2009.

The stone bridge, rebuilt with more than $150,000 of stimulus funds, crosses a river but ends abruptly on one side with an 8-foot (2.4-metre) drop to a grassy field near a Ford dealership.

“This is the absolute ‘bridge to nowhere’ if there ever was one,” Romney told a

crowd of supporters. “That’s your stimulus dollars at work – a bridge that goes nowhere.”

  1. This is so scary. I wonder if we really know where the Stimulous money is going.  Like his hiding his past I think he is hiding his present mistakes.  He is dumping us in the drink.
