The conversation Americans would LIKE to imagine at the Obama kitchen table:

MICHELLE OBAMA:  “Now girls, you know that Daddy has been elected as the first African American ever in the presidency, and times are very difficult for so many people because the economy is in terrible trouble. It’s our job to set a GOOD EXAMPLE.  We have so MUCH. 

We are making a sacrifice to live in The White House so that Daddy can serve America.  Not everyone gets to have their own chef, their own limo, their own mansion, their own box seats at the theater, a bowling alley to themselves, private Halloween Parties with movie stars, and even our own movie theater.   At the same time, because we are here to SERVE the country, we’ll have to make some sacrifices.   When Daddy goes on his big jet to far away places to represent America, we will select the exciting destinations and take you along!  But there will be other times when we probably won’t be able to take some of our usual and frequent family vacations whenever we want, because it’s just not fair for taxpayers to have to pay the enormous amount of money required to support and protect us.  After all, a lot people in the country can’t even afford a vacation this year.”   Or have their own pilot!

Instead we get: “Damn the torpedoes!  Let’s get out of this hole!  It’s been almost 4 weeks since our last vacation!  I NEED TO GET AWAAAAY!  Call up the jet and girls call the stewards to bring your bags!!!!!!!!”

Even the Brits are embarrassed for us….this from the United Kingdom’s MAIL ONLINE:

“Barely a month after returning from a luxury Christmas break in Hawaii Michelle Obama is on holiday again – this time at the exclusive Colorado ski resort of Aspen. It’s her 16th holiday since her husband took office.

The First Lady Michelle Obama is spending Presidents’ Day weekend in the upmarket resort with her daughters, Sasha and Malia, and was seen hitting the slopes – albeit apprehensively – on Saturday.    The Secret Service have been in town for the past few days looking for safe places for the family to relax.  Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo confirmed Mrs Obama arrived Friday afternoon, saying, ‘it’s a privilege to have the first lady here.’ He told the Aspen Daily News he met with Secret Service officers and has placed seven of his deputies at the service of the First Family.

Here’s the list of 16 family vacations the Obamas have taken in the three years they have been in The White House.  EXCLUDING Barack’s 95 rounds of golf!

– Christmas 2010, in Hawaii.
– August 2010, the first family traveled to Panama City Beach, Fla., for some sun and fun at the beach.
– August 2010, Obama spent the weekend alone in Chicago for his 49th birthday bash.
– August 2010, the first lady and daughter Sasha traveled to Spain for a mother-daughter vacation.
– August 2010, summer vacation again at Martha’s Vineyard.
– July 2010, the first family went to Mount Desert Island, Maine.
– May 2010, the first family had a four-day trip to Chicago.
– March 2010, first lady and daughter spend Spring Break in New York City.
– Christmas 2009, Hawaii again for the annual break.
