The Faith Superbowl
December 2, 2011
Rick Santorum will roll out his best hope of becoming relevant again on Monday, when his campaign broadcasts a spot reminding Iowans that he is all about social issues.
No argument there. Santorum and his wife really walk the walk on family, healthcare, life and marriage. His full page ad might catch some real attention in Iowa, or it might be swept up with kitty litter because folks in the heartland state will be suffocated with political ads in the month of December. It will be a wonder if they get to hear any Christmas music on the radio!!!!!
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the Faith Superbowl, and ready to get into the game is Texas Governor Rick Perry. Having lost all confidence of the People by coming repeatedly unprepared for one presidential debate after another, Perry is going to play the FAITH card in Iowa. This might work if the polls showed that voters still have any faith in him. Unfortunately, Governor Perry is unconvincing on the debate stage, and a little unbelievable in this ad.
The waning campaigns of lower-tier candidates are doing ANYthing to keep their candidate’s name in the newspapers. Literally. The oldest trick in the book in the Iowa Caucuses is to try to be the MOST believing, and the most protective of the buzzword social issues which rile up the heartland. Perry and Santorum aren’t trying to draw a direct contrast between them, and say, Herman Cain and all of his character questions, are they? Or Mitt Romney’s Mormonism in the legendary Evangelical communities of Iowa? Or Newt Gringrich’s rebirth in the Catholic Church despite a lengthy…past?
The last thing the American people want is a January 3rd Faith Superbowl in Iowa. The issue is how to save the jobs, the paychecks, the
retirements, the Medicare, and the futures of farmers, workers, students, moms, and all families in the U.S.! And most important? To determine which candidate has the best chance of sending Barack Obama out for Starbucks while his furniture his moved out of The White House!
All of the candidates running for president in the GOP have demonstrated that they are believing people. We know all we need to know. We want someone sitting behind the presidential desk who knows his or her way to a PRAYER. Someone with humility and with an understanding that there is a greater power in the universe than the President of the United States of America.
That’s ALL.
