Newt Gingrich Loses…But Refuels

Newt Gingrich Hits The Jackpot

Wouldn’t you like to get a $5 million dollar phone call?  That’s what happened to Newt Gingrich when Sheldon Adelson, owner of the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas called Gingrich and told him he had written a $5 million check to his SuperPac.  WHY would one man stand behind the former Speaker when he is….losing?  Sheldon Adelson loved Newt Gingrich’s off-handed remark about Palestinians being “invented.”  He liked it so much that he pulled the lever on one of his slot machines and let it pour.

Five million dollars still goes a long way in politics, and that’s why voters looking at a 4th or 5th place in New Hampshire tonight shouldn’t count Newt Gingrich out.  South Carolinians will welcome the conservative former Speaker and his straight-talk.  Even if sometimes, he’s a bit over the top.  South Carolina has been one of the ugliest battlegrounds in Primary politics for a long time, and 2012 will be no different.  Newt Gingrich has taken his Las Vegas windfall and placed 3.4 million dollars of it, basically against Romney, in South Carolina ad buys.  Rick Perry meanwhile, is spending his remaining campaign funds to make his last stand in South Carolina.  He will be courting the religious right.  Rick Santorum, without any money in his campaign warchest will be working the national GOP debates hard, and only time if he can hang on.  The battle though, is likely to

be between the 2nd place finishers. Because Mitt Romney has already organized Florida, to close the deal.  Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and other big Floridians are holding the door.
