Mitt Romney Romps The Field In Nevada

Another Primary In The Win Column For Romney

The Romney campaign is nothing if not organized.   Saturday’s decisive win in Nevada took Romney back to a state friendly in 2008, but this year Nevada Republicans in EVERY category threw in behind the former Governor of Massachusetts.  The secret of Mitt Romney’s success in both New Hampshire, Florida and Nevada?  People.  Passionate and committed volunteers.  The Kitchen Cabinet visited the Romney call center in Las Vegas and found volunteers who had traveled from as far away as Delaware, Northern California, Virginia, Utah and even Florida.  All arriving to make LIVE phone calls.

It was an amazing contrast to Romney’s nearest competitor, Newt Gingrich.  Though the former Speaker was ready to go, he had only four scheduled stops in Nevada, and all were remarkably small Nevada grills or restaurants or other venues with low turnout.  Surprising, because Gingrich continues to show marked support across the country.

Here’s the latest numbers at this hour from Reuters:

LAS VEGAS | Sun Feb 5, 2012 12:31am EST

(Reuters) – Republican front-runner Mitt Romney cruised to an easy victory in Nevada on Saturday, crushing his three remaining rivals and taking firm command of the party’s volatile presidential nominating race.

Romney captured 44 percent of the vote with about 43 percent of precincts counted, taking about a 20-point lead over his closest rivals, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and U.S. Representative Ron Paul, who were battling for second place.

The victory was Romney’s second in a row and his third in the first five contests in the state-by-state battle to find a Republican challenger to President Barack Obama in November’s general election.

It propels Romney into the next contests – in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri on Tuesday – on a huge wave of momentum.

Gingrich held a news conference after the results were announced to head off any speculation that he might put an early end to his campaign.

“I’m not going to withdraw,” Gingrich told reporters, repeating his frequent vow to continue his campaign all the way to the nominating convention in Florida in August. “I’m actually pretty happy with where we are.”

with a convincing win over Gingrich in Florida last Tuesday.

He benefited from a huge financial and organizational edge in Nevada, which he won with 51 percent of the vote during his failed 2008.
