Is Newt Gingrich Back?
November 5, 2011
A new Rasmussen Poll out this week shows GOP debate star Newt Gingrich picking up a little steam. Instead of being in low single digits, the former Speaker of the House shot up to 14 points, with Herman Cain at 26%, and Mitt Romney at 23%. This weekend, the two frontrunners, ( and we all seem to be ignoring Rick Perry) gave Newt Gingrich the Iowa State Republican dinner all to himself! Gingrich seized the day and by all reports relit his conservative credentials with the gathered Iowans.
In a presidential debate between Gingrich and Cain, the issue of improper sexual behavior wasn’t addressed head on. Newt Gingrich was not going to attack Cain out of Republican courtesy, but also the former Speaker is currently in his third marriage and prefers to steer clear of personal issues.
Meanwhile, Herman Cain is buldozing ahead in his campaign, and showed great confidence before the crowds in Iowa saying:
“When people get on the Cain train, they don’t get off.”
While a new Washington Post-ABC News survey taken following the revelations of Cain’s harassment charges shows the former Godfather
Pizza CEO holding his own, other inside numbers hint at trouble coming.
Rasmussen polling numbers also find that Herman Cain slips to third place among those who see the accusations as serious, and Republican women were significantly more likely than men to say the allegations make them less apt to support the businessman.
