Perry Campaign Likely Source of Cain Story
November 2, 2011
Today the 8 x 10 of the Herman Cain “scandal” became an 11 x 14.
It has now been revealed that just two weeks ago, the Perry campaign hired the former communication’s director from Herman Cain’s 2003 Senate campaign. Curt Anderson, according to Herman Cain, is the ONE person he remembers telling about the harassment charges which have now brought his presidential campaign to a standstill. Cain reports that he shared the sensitive information with his Communications Director, just in case any questions arose.
Amazingly, Herman Cain was street smart about the potentially-damaging claims eight years ago, but seemed shocked and in a state of denial when challenged about them for the first time this week.
Follow @TKC_US“When I sat down with my general campaign consultant Curt Anderson in a private room in our campaign
offices in 2003, we discussed opposition research on me,” he told Forbes reporter Richard Miniter on Wednesday. “It was a typical campaign conversation. I told him that there was only one case, one set of charges, one woman while I was at the National Restaurant Association. Those charges were baseless, but I thought he needed to know about them. I don’t recall anyone else being in the room when I told him.”
So…did Anderson leak the incident to Politico? The tale goes on as reported here in the International Business Times:
“Cain’s campaign also pointed to the timing of Perry hiring Anderson — about a week before the Politico story came out, officials said — as suspicious. But Politico had been working on the story for much longer than a week.
Anderson denied Cain’s accusation immediately, telling Miniter that he hadn’t even heard of the sexual harassment allegations against Cain until he read about them in the Politico report.
“I have nothing but good things to say about Herman Cain,” he said. “I’m not going to bad-mouth Herman Cain to anyone, on or off the record. I think he is a guy of great leadership and integrity.”
Perry Campaign Denies Cain Accusation
Ray Sullivan, a spokesman for Perry, also denied the claims, calling them “patently untrue.”
But, he added, he wouldn’t be surprised if Mitt Romney’s campaign had leaked the story.
“I wouldn’t put it past them,” Sullivan told CBS News. “There are much closer connections between the Restaurant Association, Cain and the Romney camp than there are with us.”
Andrea Saul, a spokeswoman for Romney, said simply that Sullivan’s insinuations were “not true.”
Politico, meanwhile, is not talking and won’t reveal its source for the story and more details continue to leak out, including a possible THIRD woman who claims she also considered filing sexual harassment charges against Cain. This whole mess brings new meaning to the saying, “He said…she said.”
Oh for heaven sake put this useless piece of the past to rest!! I do not think I am the only one thinking all of this is “YESTERDAY’s news. I also do not think I am alone in thinking in light of how today’s morals go…Mr. Cain has done nothing that really matters NOW! If by chance the charges are factual, this whole news flash, smear campaign is still old news. Someone some where just wants to bring Mr.Cain down and has dug deep to find anything to smear Mr.Cain. And if this is it..then we do have a Saint running for President. All I know is this OLD NEWS hasn’t swayed my opinion of Mr.Cain any. (Just a bunch of people who naturally are gossipers who just live to bring people down, the kids call them jealous “Haters” maybe the kids have something there)

I think till al the details are out im staying on the fence about this. I dont find sexual harrasement anything to laugh at but I know for a fact how women and men see thinsg differently and how some pple react to soemthing that meant nothing . Till what ever actully happened comes out its a he said she said sort of thing. IN fact it may stay that way if there was not any witnesses for either side.
The art of personal destruction is not new to politics. Think aboujt what they did to Andrew Jackson’s wife. She never reovered from the vitriole. I think the idea is to systematically destroy all of the Republican front runners, like they did to Sarah Palin, or tried to do.
There are NO rules of FAIR PLAY, and it is dog-eat-dog out there. After all there are millions, if not billions, of graft moneys at stake. Cynical? You bet! Been around long enough to see too darned many of these folks rolling in public dough.
What amazes me is the attention this gets. There are no names and no varifyable facts here…yet it’s big news.. Bill Clinton was accused credibly of much worse on numerous occasions by multple Named sources yet is was deemed unimportant…Whay is it OK for democrats to have little or no standards. yet Republicans have to be pure as the driven snow?
I have always been a democrat but I don’t like the double standards…I also expect there to be some kind of indescretion in the life of a businessman the age of Mr. Cain… This is not newsworthy…Don’t any of you watch “Mad Men”? I remember that era…it was a very different world…Judge the man by what he is and does TODAY.
You mean be fair and thoughtful? Why not follow the frenzied trail of the sef-interested media instead? We appreciate THINKERS like you Linda. Thanks for commenting.
It takes remarkable courage to stick your toe into the spotlight od the national stage. Thx for your thought.
oh my gosh all i can say is Herman Cain have them shaking in their boots otherwise they would not be diggin up probally unfounded dirt. This just makes me sure that i am going to support Mr. Cain and i hopefully one day President Cain
Alice, I think Mother Theresa said something about how small decisions we make actually shape and influence the big ones. What you do when you think no one is watching is important. But Cain has many good qualities, we’ll soon be cable to determine how many.
Thx for your comment! Sonja
I agree with Leslie. I used to work with a guy back in the 90’s who today would be considered to be sexually harassing the ladies. But back then, you just laughed and went with the flow because you knew he didn’t really mean anything by it, even though it may have made you uncomfortable. So we are now dredging up something in the “politically correct” era that happened back before anyone thought much about it.
This is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING “in light of today’s morals.” Just a witch hunt to bring down the top man.
I don’t think this is the job of any Republican candidate. The left is TERRIFIED that a REAL honest-to-goodness INTELLIGENT, GODLY black man might go up against their “king”.
He still has MY vote!!!
I personally believe that the Democratic Party is behind this attempt to discredit Mr. Cain. Name one politician that has not done something dishonest or immoral or both.
Seems most of the news media – whether TV, radio, magazines, tabloids, newspapers – are in bed with the liberal Democrat Party and will sell their very souls for them. Politics of Destruction! These guys at Politico are as evil and dirty as the folks at Moveon.org. I got a survey call tonight from Cain campaign and I said “Yes” to the question of whether I support Herman Cain. For sure I will not vote for Romney or Perry in our primary. If either of these two are the nominee I will have to decide whether to vote 3rd party or skip the vote for president. To me it seems Romney would be only slightly less liberal than Obama and we would be stuck with some version of ObamaRomneycare.
so he said something inappropriate and made inappropriate gestures? if that’s the best “they” can find on Mr. Cain he should be be nominated for sainthood!!!
