The National Organization Of A FEW Women Attacks Laura Bush

Do THESE Women Consider Laura Bush A Liberator? A Feminist?

It’s official.  The National Organization of Women has finally and completely rendered itself irrelevant.  Its 84-year old co-founder, Sonia Pressman Fuentes dug the organization’s  grave this week by attacking former First Lady Laura Bush for not being “feminist” enough.  To make her point, she assembled 20 other like-minded and out-of-step women to oppose Mrs. Bush’s nomination for the “Alice Award.”  The award is a special recognition bestowed by the Sewall-Belmont Women’s Suffrage Museum upon women who have made inroads representing the needs and rights of women.

Some Feel Laura Bush Does Not Measure Up To Pelosi, Hillary, or even Katie Couric.

Never mind the obvious…that First Lady Laura Bush needs another award like she needs dandelions in her lawn.  But Katie Couric passed muster for the Alice Award.  Nancy Pelosi did too.  Hillary Clinton, and others.  Somehow though, a former First Lady who advocated for Breast Cancer research, literacy for children, and the rights of young girls and women in Afghanistan to go to school and to vote, does NOT?   What about Mrs. Bush’s new Women’s Fellowship at the Bush Presidential Library which encourages women to improve their native countries?   Sonia Fuentes…tells The Washington Post:  NO.

“Laura Bush is not known as a champion of women’s rights.  She has done little or nothing to advance American women’s equality,” her letter contended.  “Her advocacy on behalf of Afghan women is commendable, but she has been conspicuously absent in every major arena of American women’s rights.  Nor has she challenged her party’s anti-feminist agenda in any meaningful way. To give the Alice Award to such a partisan political figure in an election year is highly questionable. To give it to a non-feminist Republican figurehead, at a time when the Republican Party is doing its utmost to demolish women’s hard-fought rights, reflects a stunning lapse of judgment.

Bitterness Over The Choices Of Women....Out Of Style.

Occasionally, high-profile nominees for public awards generate controversy.  But the lion’s roar of a couple of dozen feminists’ measuring one woman’s good over another, is just embarrassing and out of style.  We live in an era where women express their feminism in 21st Century ways.  By being professional in the workplace and in our homes. Not by  judging one woman’s path as wiser, more “righteous”, or more important.

The truth is, Laura Bush expressed her individualism and her devotion to the country by not branding issues with her views, because she regarded them as “personal” for each and every woman.  When President George Bush did depart from The White House, she chose THEN to share her quiet, individual, political and social opinions:

“In 2010, Bush did go public while hyping her memoir, “Spoken From the Heart.” She confessed to Larry King that she disagreed with her husband on abortion and gay marriage.  “I think it’s important that (Roe v. Wade) remain legal for medical reasons and other reasons.” As for gay marriage, which she said

Actions Speak Louder Than....Words.

straddles a generational divide, “when couples are committed to each other, love each other, they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has.”

The Kitchen Cabinet whole-heartedly endorses the nomination of Mrs. Laura Bush as a leader of women, a public servant in America, and a courageous advocate for women all around the world.

Ms. Fuentes and Mrs. Bush definitely part ways on one thing:   CLASS.

  1. It seems to me thast some of those who are opposing it. look and act more like ‘men” then “women” How can you be “feminine” if yoyu look, talk, and act lkike a “man”. Now, I know this dosen’t have “anything” to do with “womens rights”!! But lets get the words correct to start with!!! YES, Mrs. Layra Bush DOSE desireve it!!

  2. I do believe Laura Bush deserves this award – but there’s more  to this than meets the eye- why !!   Because the women here in the U.S.A.  Have rights ( more ) than other women in other countries – feminists  iin my view  arehypersensitive,  uptight. , hypocritical ,snobs  this is why I chooze not to be called a21 st woman libber or feminist  cause I don’twant to be associated withthat’s type of women!!

  3. Well Ms Fuentes, another typical latino, Mrs. Laura Bush is more of a feminine Lady with more class and caring about women’s rights then you will ever be.  If you choose Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton (who is more like a man), even Michelle Obama who looks and acts like a male basketball player, then you need to refine what you want in a feminist.  Mrs. Laura Bush should be at the top of the list along with women like Nancy Reagan, and a few others.  But then again Laura Bush is comfortable in her own right and knows this is not a big deal to be dealt this type of category.  She is better that than and has more class, femininity, grace than you will ever have.  You don’t know the first thing about a woman being feminine.
Thank you Mrs. Laura Bush for what you did for this country during your time in the White House and we that really know the difference, will always admire you and hope for the best for you.

  4. Laura Bush is a true lady in every sense of the word,Laura Bush does not have to prove herself to a bunch of feminist.
Laura Bush has already proven herself.. her devotion, her individualism, her loyalty,
Her great love for the people around her, and the love of her country.
Laura Bush is a great American, and we the American people.. feel very honored,
and privileged, to have had Laura Bush, as our First Lady.. One true American,
Who will always be remembered for all the good deeds and kindness that she showed for others here and around the world.
