The Kitchen Cabinet In Iowa

Tough Times This Christmas In Iowa

Iowa is a quilt of uncertainty this Christmas.

Women in the heartland state are trying to weather lost jobs, groceries and gas that cost more than they have, and mortgages on the brink.  Is it any wonder there is little patience for national leaders who are doing nothing to successfully heal the economy?

As the GOP presidential candidates pour into Iowa, we are finding that Kitchen Cabinet women are still undecided about who to vote for in the upcoming Iowa Caucuses.  All the more reason that the six remaining candidates in the GOP presidential field will be trying to make a mark in this Saturday evening’s Iowa debate.

The Kitchen Cabinet is working through virtually every network of conservative women in Iowa to reach out and provide information to women voters there.  We are finding that whether talking with Homeschooling Moms, NFRW members, interfaith groups, Pro-Life leaders or other Republican Party channels, women are searching for a candidate who gives them confidence.

One Voter At A Time In Iowa

In this deeply faithful state, Herman Cain has lost virtually all support.  Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, and Michele Bachmann are all vying for the support which once was Cain’s.  Newt Gingrich is on fire in the polls, but as we visit with everyday women, there is concern growing about his past.  Women wonder if the former Speaker will handle power as President, better than he did as Speaker of the House of Representatives when he was forced to resign.

Even so, Newt Gingrich has support in Iowa, and many Republicans love his direct, folksy style.  Strategists know that Gingrich hasn’t much staff, or campaign funding.  His hopes rest on keeping debate audiences focused on his ideas and personality.

Mitt Romney?  Steady Eddie might be a better name.  Romney, despite the fact that many Evangelical Christians wrestle whether to vote for a Mormon president, maintains as much as  25% support in campaign polls.  Especially in the population centers of the state like Des Moines.  There are rumors that a grassroots campaign is bubbling among Evangelicals to once again thwart Romney’s campaign in Iowa and push committed Christian voters to pick ANYONE else.  But among Kitchen Cabinet women, paying the bills seems a bigger worry than faith debates.

Romney Still Has Work To Do In Iowa

Even so, Romney is swinging through the state this weekend in hopes of building support and will appear in both Iowa debates this week.

With Christmas before us, all of the candidates are fighting for the attention of voters.  Ron Paul has strong support, Michele Bachmann still has an edge as a native Iowan, Rick Perry has money to spend and a Christian message, Jon Huntsman is simply on the ballot, and Rick Santorum is has been working his Pro-Life networks in the state.  Newt Gingrich?  It’s hard to know, because the Gingrich campaign has mostly been waged on the debate stage.  Seemingly, the former Speaker would have a difficult time at this late date building a ground game in Iowa.

The bottom line?  There are NO frontrunners in Iowa.  Anything can happen in that heartland state, and that’s making FOX and CNN…very happy.
