American Guns Fell Into The Wrong Hands..Causing Death of Border Patrol Agent

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.  What is SO damaging about the details behind Eric Holder’s “Fast & Furious” gun-running scandal, that Obama has to block the investigation with EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE?  Why can’t the public be fully informed about how a U.S . Border Patrol agent lost his life because Mexican Cartels were equipped with U.S. GUNS?

Today’s release to Congress by Attorney General Eric Holder Congress:

“I write now to inform you that the President has asserted executive privilege over the relevant post-February 4, 2011, documents,” writes Deputy Attorney General James Cole. “We regret that we have arrived at this point, after the many steps we have taken to address the Committee’s concerns and to accommodate the Committee’s legitimate oversight interests regarding Operation Fast and Furious.”

Republicans say they are stunned by the president’s move, while Democrats on the Oversight committee accused GOP lawmakers of carrying out a political witch hunt.

So tainted by its exploitation during Nixon’s Watergate scandal, U.S. Presidents have avoided exerting Executive Privilege. Except for BILL CLINTON, (14 times) most have used it not at all!   Not Barack Obama.

“President Obama granted Attorney General Eric Holder executive privilege on the matter, while the head of the House panel overseeing government conduct moved forward with proceedings to hold the nation’s top law enforcement official in contempt of Congress.

By asserting executive privilege, the Justice Department can withhold documents from Congress, even if Congress has issued a subpoena, as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has.

In a letter to Rep. Darrell Issa, R.-Cal., head of the Oversight Committee, Deputy Attorney General James Cole wrote, “Although we are deeply disappointed that the Committee appears intent on proceeding with a contempt vote, the Department remains willing to work with the Committee to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution of the outstanding issues.”

At issue are documents over Operation Fast and Furious, an Arizona gunwalking program that put guns in the hands of illicit gun purchasers as a way to track Mexican smuggling cartels. As a result of the program, hundreds of guns showed up in Mexico and one was found where a U.S. border agent was killed. Issa and his counterpart in the Senate, Charles Grassley, R-Iowa., opened an investigation into the case more than a year ago.”

Eric Holder should 1- TELL THE TRUTH.  2- RESIGN, and 3- GIVE UP ALL HOPES OF BEING APPOINTED TO THE U.S. SUPREME COURT in the unlikely event Obama is re-elected.

Didn't Work Then....Won't Work Now.

Richard Nixon, if available for counsel, would surely tell President Obama that protecting documents with Executive Privilege is usually not the END of a controversy…..it is the BEGINNING.

    Boy, this article sure chose to glaringly leave out the six time GW Bush used this executive order. Wonder why?? ( sarcasm button on )  Pathetic attempt here, Kitchen Cabinet.  I’m against using it – ever – just as “it’s classified” is waaaaaay overused and abused. But don’t be such BLATANT hypocrites about it KC.

    Thanks Susan.  There seem to be some disagreements about the use of Executive Orders, in what capacity, and by whom in the history books.   Bill Clinton’s use of Executive Orders is well-documented during his times of trouble in The White House.

    But there are many KINDS of Executive Orders.  Using them in the way Richard Nixon did, and Bill Clinton did, and now Barack Obama is using the power…to block the exposure of high level, sensitive documents in the Executive Branch and including Cabinet Secretaries….is different than appointing a national holiday or observance.

    Right now….Americans should be concerned about why the President of the United States does not wish Congress to be fully-informed about an underground gun-walking scheme…which armed our enemies on the border.  Especially when it was the brainchild of the Justice Department.
